Happy New Year everybody! After much mirth and merriment in December and the most epic New Years Eve I have ever experienced (the Berlin ‘don’t forget to go home’ cliche is still ringing in my head), I am pleased/relieved to present to you my own personal take on some of the amazing music which was released in 2011. You know the deal by now. I try not to play the hyped big name stuff. What’s the point? You will have read about it already in the press lists. So this podcast is about representing people who I think make music which deserves more praise and profile.
Downtempo stuff was equally as strong as dancefloor stuff last year, so the first half hour of the show is devoted mainly to some of my favourite folky, soulful woozy numbers. There has been some great club music released this year of course, so I tried to include some of the lesser known numbers which have worked for me this year.
I can’t think of much more to say really apart from MASSIVE thanks to everyone who sent me great music to play last year. Respect to the producers and labels who are pushing things forward. On a purely personal level, I want to express my gratitude to everyone who listened to the radio show, downloaded and shared the podcast, bought one of my records, booked me to DJ, came to see me in a club and spent time with me while I was on my travels.
There were so many highlights last year. My first trip to Australia, returning to Japan, finally visiting Russia (twice), being made so welcome when I moved to Berlin, completely re-designing my life, releasing records which I was proud of, playing some of the coolest underground parties I have ever experienced….
