The Early Years out on 27/09/10

I will be releasing my first artist album The Early Years on 27/09/10. It’s a selection of the best tracks from my various singles on Untracked, Tirk, Society, Deep Freeze and Undertones plus some new ones as well. The artwork is all sourced from family photos as a metaphor for the early years of my music production.

How I Program out on 06/09/10

As you may remember, I am starting my new label Bergerac in September with the release of the How I Program EP.

Each release will feature bespoke artwork from German illustrator Silke Eiselt. I asked her to draw pictures of all the houses I have lived in chronologically. How much more fucking HOUSE can you get than that?

The artwork is impressionist style btw so try checking out the graphics from a distance and it becomes clearer and clearer.

It’s been getting great feedback from people like Gilles Peterson, Move D, Jus Ed, 2562, Robert Owens and Atjazz and you can hear a preview of each track in the soundcloud player below.

The vinyl mastering was by Shane @ Final Tweek and Digital Mastering was by Chris @ Blacklisted.

It’s out on vinyl on 06/09/10 and digital will be about a month later. Distribution is by Kudos.

Underground/Exalt Out Now on Shift Music

Yes I have been banging on about it for ages but it’s finally out now! My EP for new label Shift Music has just been released. It’s had DJ support from Ewan Pearson, Jazzanova, 2562, Atjazz, Andrew Weatherall etc

Vinyl is in Juno and Phonica so far but should be everywhere else by the weekend. It’s available digitally as well in quite a few places including Juno Download.

I have got track on the new Brownswood/FYE compilation ‘We Made This’, which is made up entirely of tracks produced by users of the Brownswood message board. There’s some ace stuff on the album including tracks from Mr Beatnick, Jimi Oh, Bergs, Deep Space Orchestra, Surra and Clause 4.

As it’s a non profit exercise the comp is available for only £4.99 which is a bargain considering the quality of the music and artwork. It’s all exclusive material too. Soon to be a collectors item!

Well it’s been probably my most long awaited release since the Joubert Singers remix (which came out about this time last year). Don’t ask me why it’s taken so long but it’s finally here. Gilles Peterson played In Love Again on Radio 1 way back in September 2009 and since then I have had so many people contacting me asking when it’s coming out and some even asking to buy an mp3 off me!

Anyway, it’s a 3 track EP of beatdown house which I think is fairly banging despite all of the tracks being below 110bpm.

It’s available to buy from Juno and Phonica who very kindly made it one of their records of the week. It should be in Piccadilly by the weekend for all people of a Northern persuasion.

Red Rack’em – NIght Shift EP – Out Now On Undertones

After yet more delays to the Untracked EP (out at the end of the month now), I am pleased to say the Night Shift EP has actually been released ahead of schedule. That is pretty much unheard of in the record game! Anyway this is my first record on a non UK label as it’s been released on Undertones, which is an offshoot of the Detroit house label Kolour. It’s also my most housey release to date and contains 3 pretty different tracks which loosely fall into 3 different catagories.

The whole EP is based around working late, be it on music, in a factory or driving a bus. Title track ‘Night Shift’ is a spooky deep house track which was influenced by the first Batman movie believe it or not. I was trying to recreate the gothic feel of that movie with dissonant chords and dark atmospherics. The first track on the B side is called ‘Overtime’ and is of course an ode to putting in those extra hours. It’s fairly banging in a kind of big room-yet deep way and its my first ever techno track that’s been released too which is nice. The final track Late One is weird mutant funked up squelchy house with some seriously french hi hats in it.

New Revenge Single with Red Rack’em Remix OUT NOW

I have remixed the new single by pitched down house hotshot The Revenge. It’s in the shops today and it’s on a hot new label called Home Taping Is Killing Music. The track is called ‘Forever In Their Debt’ and it’s about the artistic debt that all modern house producers owe to the greats of the past – Larry, Chez, Ron, Frankie etc. The original track is stripped back old school techy business.

With my remix I wanted to encompass the different house moods that I like in just one track (maybe a bit of a tall order!) so it starts off on the stripped down beatdown tip, then drops into fairly tough deep house and ends on a reflective techno ish note.

The Picnic EP came out on Deep Freeze about a month ago complete with a quality remix by The Revenge and it has now been released digitally. It’s exclusively available from Juno Download HERE. The vinyl has been really well received so far with loads of interest all over the world due to it’s straight up housey nature. There’s also a nice review of the EP on the excellent Random Circuits site HERE.

Crimson Guest Mix

I am really pleased to finally get a guestmix from David Crimson who is one of Hungarys most respected deep DJs. Crimson is part of the crew who are behind the famed Budapest minimal/house night Lick The Click. As part of the IKZ crew (along side fellow David Chrom) he is the guy they call to support people like Carl Craig and Henrik Schwarz in Budapest. His is also the house and techno buyer for Deep Records which is one of the best record shops in Hungary.
