Background Info

I have been asked to play at the Hidden Bar at Alea Casino, Upper Parliament Street every Thursday night at a new weekly night which they are starting called Hidden Nights.

It’s going to be on in the Hidden Bar every Thursday night from 10pm until 2am and is aimed at late drinkers and dancers who want to have a good quality drink somewhere late with decent music.

I suggested doing a launch party to mark the first event.

Launch Party

So on Thursday 27th May from 10pm there will be reception drinks, canapes and good music until 2am. I also have a healthy bar tab so if anyone from here wants to come along – be sure to hit me up with a PM and I will get you something nice on the night.

Everyone is welcome – just bring your dancing shoes and a healthy appetite for cocktails and champagne.

Music and Info

The music will be accessible and fun. Nothing too mental. Expect to hear funk, disco, soul, electro, house and some jazzy stuff too.

There will be drinks offers too so expect to get premium drinks for reasonable prices.

As it’s on a Thursday you won’t need to join the casino to gain access to the Hidden Bar, just go up to reception and say you’re there to go to Hidden Nights and you will be allowed through.

A Garden Get Together, Brighton 22/05/10

I am playing at the Garden Festival in Croatia this year and they have been doing a series of events to get people into the spirit of the festival. I have been asked to play at the Brighton leg of the tour at the Funky Buddha Lounge on THIS Sat 22nd May. It’s my Brighton debut too – woohoo!

I will be joining Untracked/Atlantic Conveyors Christopher Tubbs at the ace Special Needs night at Camdens Lockside Lounge on Sat 29th May. The Special Needs guys are ace and it will be the first time me and Chris have played together since my breakfast club last June so am excited about this one!

This weekend I will be joining the ace Those That Know crew for a late night Easter Sunday special at Inside Out in Darlington. This will be my first ever gig in the North East of England so I am really excited. Previous guests have included Moodymann, Theo Parrish, Omar S and Linkwood so I can’t wait to take it a bit deeper…

Mr Scruff + Red Rack’em @ Merlin, Budapest 26/03/10

I am off to Budapest (today actually bloody need a holiday) to play with Stockports king of beats and tea Mr Scruff on Friday. The club is Merlin which is an ace venue (played there 2 years ago with Modeselektor) and I am going to be playing with my Hungarian partner in crime Crimson from the IKZ crew.

Zed Bias and Red Rack’em @ Canvas, Leicester 27/03/10

Then the following evening I will be joining another genuine UK dance legend Dave Jones aka Zed Bias at Canvas in Leicester for a late night set of garage tinged flavours. I am on from 3.30 – 5.30 am – proper late night ravers session. I will be doing a small Marlinspike PA with Candice Chevon (who has sung on some of the tracks on the album I am working on) then playing a 2 hour DJ set.

Smugglers Inn London Excursion @ Vibe Bar, Trueman Brewery, Brick Lane, London

My monthly London residency continues with the return of the DJs DJ Louis Finch.

Louis Finch

Louis is one of those rare DJs who prefers to let his blinding selection and skills do the talking. As a resident at the infamous Boogiejuice night in north yorkshire hippy haven Hebden Bridge he regularly gave guests like Derrick Carter, Andrew Weatherall and Chris Duckenfield a run for their money behind the decks. Nowadays he tends to avoid the spotlight so I am really pleased that I have persuaded him to play at this event.

Plus Resident DJ – Red Rack’em -Tirk/Untracked/Hometaping

Danny Berman aka Red Rack’em is working on several musical projects including Hot Coins (disco/house), Marlinspike (Detroit techno 2 step) and Red Rack’em (wonky hip hop and beatdown house). He produces music for quite a few respected labels including Tirk, Untracked, Home Taping Is Killing Music, Society, Soft Rocks, Undertones, Autodiscoteque and Deep Freeze and has also remixed a few well known artists including Tricky for Domino Records. As a DJ, Danny plays many different types of music around the UK and in Europe and he also produces and presents his own radio show The Smugglers Inn.

Rack’em will be joined each month by respected DJs and producers from various scenes. Expect to hear the finest hip-hop, disco, cosmic, elctro, punk funk, proper house, broken beat, jazz, funk and wonky beats.

I will be joining Morgan Zarate from Spacek, Soundspecies and the CDR family in Birmingham on Thursday for a Logic based CDR production workshop. I have been asked to show how I made one of my standout tracks so I am going to look at my remix of ‘Stand On The Word’ by the Joubert Singers and show how I produced it.

If you’re based near Birmingham and fancy coming along to the session it’s held at Ikon Gallery, 1 Oozells Square, Brindleyplace, Birmingham. There will be tracks being made on the night and the opportunity to have a go with Logic 9 if you’re thinking of getting into production.

It’s free and is on from 7-10pm. Here’s a video from the last event which featured Bullion, Simbad and Floating Points.
