Crimson Guest Mix

I am really pleased to finally get a guestmix from David Crimson who is one of Hungarys most respected deep DJs. Crimson is part of the crew who are behind the famed Budapest minimal/house night Lick The Click. As part of the IKZ crew (along side fellow David Chrom) he is the guy they call to support people like Carl Craig and Henrik Schwarz in Budapest. His is also the house and techno buyer for Deep Records which is one of the best record shops in Hungary.

Snowbombing

I am off to play at Snowbombing this week in Mayrhoffen, Austria. I will be playing at the Tirk party and am on after Soft Rocks, Lindstrom and Greg Wilson (so no pressure there then) in the Arena from 4-6am on Thursday 2nd (or maybe wed 1st not sure if it’s wed or thu morning!) and then I am playing a ‘mountainside set’ in the Igloo from 2-3pm on the afternoon of the 2nd. I am massively looking forward to getting a break and I have vowed to leave the laptop in the UK so I will come back fresh and motivated!

Falling Up @ The Tube, Bristol – 28/02/09

This mix has been floating around for a wee while but it’s been so mad hectic recently I didn’t get round to posting this until now.

Marc Kets from the excellent Kumo Blog asked to do a mix for his One Hundred Project which has featured the likes of Danny Webb, Tyler Askew, Solid State, Feelmusic and Toby Tobias.

This mix is based on a lot of the stuff that influenced me in Edinburgh circa ‘95 with a few more modern things chucked in. It isn’t meant to be a ‘mixed’ mix – more of a compilation type vibe..

I have been invited to play at Gilles Petersons 2009 Worldwide Awards. It’s held at Cargo in London on Saturday 24th of January from 7pm-4am and will feature Jazzanova playing their first UK live show, The Robert Mitchell Trio, Finn Peters, Alice Russel, Dorian Concept, Quiet Village, Stacy Epps, Mama Milk and many more acts. The Awards part of the show is sold out. But there are still places available for the afterparty which will be on from 11pm until 4am. That’s the part of the night when the DJs get to play so I will be performing alongside Gilles, Laurent Garnier, Truth and Soul DJs and The BPM. I am on at 1am so expect a reasonably tough set! I am really pleased to be asked to play at this event – it’s a really nice way to finish a strong 2008 (I still don’t feel it’s fully 2009 yet) and also a great opportunity to see so many world class acts in 1 room.

Happy 2009 everyone! Here’s a mix that I have been saving for a special occasion.

I have regularly attended the Nottingham Out To Lunch Jazzdance sessions for at least 6 years now and have ended up getting to know quite a lot of the people that turn up on the second Sunday of every month. I enjoy the privacy of these Sunday sessions – you can go and chat to the dancers and get involved or hide behind a pillar and listen to the hard bop. Perry Louis and JazzCotech Dancers are a class act and the music is always ace.

One day in early 2008, the organiser/resident DJ Killer Jim asked me if I wanted to play at the August session. It’s a massive honour to play there so it was great to be asked. I really enjoyed blasting out the tunes to such a responsive and interpretive dancers – watching the twists, turns and ultra fancy footwork really did add an extra dimension to playing the tunes. The intimate setting somehow made it feel bigger than a ‘big’ gig and I found it one of my most rewarding and enjoyable DJ experiences so far.

It’s the launch party for my new Valiant Truth EP on Sunday 23rd November @ Tropicana which is proving to be one of Londons hottest disco sessions. It’s a Tirk Records Special so will feature their ace selectors Ben Terry and Matty J, Toby Tobias (Rekids) and the Tropicana residents Neil Lazermagnetic and Danny Latenightaudio.
