The Early Years out on 27/09/10

I will be releasing my first artist album The Early Years on 27/09/10. It’s a selection of the best tracks from my various singles on Untracked, Tirk, Society, Deep Freeze and Undertones plus some new ones as well. The artwork is all sourced from family photos circa 1985-1990 as a metaphor for the early years of my music production.

It’s had some nice news pieces on it on Resident Advisor Electronic Beats and Juno

No promo audio yet but I will put a set on soundcloud soon.

How I Program out on 06/09/10

As you may remember, I am starting my new label Bergerac in September with the release of the How I Program EP.

Each release will feature bespoke artwork from German illustrator Silke Eiselt. I asked her to draw pictures of all the houses I have lived in chronologically. How much more fucking HOUSE can you get than that?

The artwork is impressionist style btw so try checking out the graphics from a distance and it becomes clearer and clearer.

It’s been getting great feedback from people like Gilles Peterson, Move D, Jus Ed, 2562, Robert Owens and Atjazz and you can hear a preview of each track in the soundcloud player below.

Red Rack’em – How I Program EP – Bergerac 001 by Red Rack’em

The vinyl mastering was by Shane @ Final Tweek and Digital Mastering was by Chris @ Blacklisted.

It’s out on vinyl on 06/09/10 and digital will be about a month later. Distribution is by Kudos.

Well that’s July over and it’s definitely been the best month of the year so far for me. I am still on a high from the Garden Festival in Croatia (and now Freerotation too), so on this show I played a few things which went down well in Croatia and rambled on a bit about it all. I don’t get out much. What can I say?

The show contains a bloody marvelous guestmix from The Kelly Twins who promote their own ace clubnight UFO and also run Best Before with Sell By Dave and are often described as ‘robots’ on the decks due to their intense skills and stamina.

The rest of the show contain some pretty corking new sounds from the likes of Office Gossip (this totally smashed it on the Boogaloo Boat party in Croatia), Funkineven getting all acid house, Erbeerchnitzles new hip hop project, brand new Spandex remixing Seetheroad, brand new Lone getting all ravey again plus something from my forthcoming Bergerac label.

After a short break in Croatia, Smugglers Inn Radio is back with a bloody ace guestmix from the Kelly Twins who hail from Plymouth and are electro boogie masters.

I first heard of the Kelly Twins when Bristol edit head Sell By Dave (of Bedmo Disco) put me onto their fricking top drawer ‘Don’t Smoke Crack’ live electro mix. After much searching I found the link too – check it out HERE.

They promote their own ace clubnight UFO and also run Best Before with Sell By Dave and are often described as ‘robots’ on the decks due to their intense skills and stamina.

Here’s what Sean and Dan have to say about their sound.

Bit of a different show this time. I was having a much needed break at my parents house in Scotland last week so I couldn’t record the show as normal. The show is a live mix special. The first 1.5 hours is the recording of my set at Freestyle at the Bulls Head in Moseley from the 24th April 2010.

I am immensely proud say that tomorrows show will have an exclusive special guestmix from the legendary and most highly rated Italo DJ Flemming Dalum.

Flemming Dalum

I first became aware of Flemming Dalum when Ali Renault played me some of his mixes and I immediately had the same feeling as when I first heard Baldellis seminal cosmic tapes. Flemming expertly mixes up a multitude of styles under the Italo umbrella with the emphasis firmly on the word BOOGIE. Indeed most of his mix titles have the word boogie in the title and this one (Italo Space Boogie) is no exception.

Flemming has an immense record collection (25,000 at last count) which he has been steadily building for the last 30 years. He doesn’t like to repeat himself, so each mix contains handpicked and ultra rare tracks. He made his first buying trip (from his native Denmark) to Milan in 1983 and was soon a regular customer at disco shops Il Discotto, Discomagic, Non-Stop and Merak. The amazing choice and service he experienced there helped him build what must be the most comprehensive Italo collection in the world.

After a fairly guestmix heavy period, it was nice to get to do a whole show on my own this time as it can be quite hard to fit everything in when I only have 1 hour and 20 mins. Loads of good new HOUSE on the show this time from the likes of Efdimen, Losoul, Simbad and Ajukaja, There’s a preview of the ace new See The Road EP which follows on from their underground smash Pondora. Background Info

I have been asked to play at the Hidden Bar at Alea Casino, Upper Parliament Street every Thursday night at a new weekly night which they are starting called Hidden Nights.

It’s going to be on in the Hidden Bar every Thursday night from 10pm until 2am and is aimed at late drinkers and dancers who want to have a good quality drink somewhere late with decent music.

I suggested doing a launch party to mark the first event.

So on Thursday 27th May from 10pm there will be reception drinks, canapes and good music until 2am. I also have a healthy bar tab so if anyone from here wants to come along – be sure to hit me up with a PM and I will get you something nice on the night.

Everyone is welcome – just bring your dancing shoes and a healthy appetite for cocktails and champagne.

Music and Info

The music will be accessible and fun. Nothing too mental. Expect to hear funk, disco, soul, electro, house and some jazzy stuff too.

There will be drinks offers too so expect to get premium drinks for reasonable prices.

As it’s on a Thursday you won’t need to join the casino to gain access to the Hidden Bar, just go up to reception and say you’re there to go to Hidden Nights and you will be allowed through.

A Garden Get Together, Brighton 22/05/10

I am playing at the Garden Festival in Croatia this year and they have been doing a series of events to get people into the spirit of the festival. I have been asked to play at the Brighton leg of the tour at the Funky Buddha Lounge on THIS Sat 22nd May. It’s my Brighton debut too – woohoo!

Andrew is a highly skilled deep house and techno producer who is fairly hidden away on the Isle Of Man. He’s quietly been putting out ultra limited twelves with screenprinted sleeves since 2005 and seems perfectly satisfied to hone his craft far away from the glare of Resident Advisor and the Juno chart. I played at his night in Douglas on IOM last year and it was one of my most memorable gigs so far..

Andrews mix is across the boards heat featuring tracks from Linkwood, Reggie Dokes, Herbie Hancock, Tevo Howard and much more..
